Family Fun in the Heart of Texas

While staying at the Barton Creek Resort, we were lucky enough to experience a Segway tour from Gliding Revolution, which also offers tours of downtown Austin and around Town Lake. "Groups get to see the sites up close and personal," says Shay Reynolds, owner of Gliding Revolution. "Families get to spend time with one another in the outdoors in a way that is entertaining for everyone."

After a lesson on how to operate the Segways and important safety information, we went on a test run around the resort's parking lot. Once we got the thumbs up from Reynolds and tour guide Crystal, all of us headed out on our hour-and-a-half tour of property on and around Barton Creek.

But what is a Segway anyway? "A Segway is a personal mobility device that was designed to allow individuals to travel great distances with ease," Reynolds says. "Segways are high-tech scooters that are intuitive, maintenance-free and emissions-free devices for personal travel both on sidewalks and roadways."

We zipped along the pathways around the golf course and then headed down the street to admire the houses surrounded the property. Safety was always stressed and photos were snapped along the way. The smiles on my kids' faces said it all – this would be another highlight of our visit.
