Boyne Mountain, Michigan
An Ultimate Family Vacation in the Midwest
By Elisa Ast All
Seeing their faces light up when they picked up speed was so much fun. Even though they were concentrating, they couldn't stop smiling. "I feel like I'm flying, Mommy!" they said. Going up and down the slopes with the entire family is something I will never forget.
We also went tubing, which was hilarious. Each person grabbed a sturdy inner tube and took it to the towrope, where a staff member hooked it to the rope. Slowly, each person was towed up the hill on their tube. At the top, each person got off and chose which run they wanted to tube down. Then, you run and jump onto the tube belly first for a fun ride down the lazy slope.
Wet and WonderfulBoyne Mountain is home to Avalanche Bay, the largest indoor waterpark in Michigan. At 88,000 square feet, this year-round water wonderland is designed to look like a ski village hit by an avalanche. The park is geared toward kids of all ages (that includes adults!), and you can fly down several waterslides, go mat-racing, climb up a wet climbing wall, check out the various activity pools and tiny tots area, float through the lazy river and soak in the hot tubs.
If you dare, test your surfing skills on the Rip Zone – Michigan's first surf simulator. Three out of five of us tried it, got tossed around a bit and lived to tell the tale! Not wet enough yet? When you hear the horn blow, prepare to be soaked by 800 gallons of water at Splasherhorn Mountain!
