Goin' up North
Minnesota's Winter Playground
By Suzy Feine
The Grand View Lodge prides itself on attentive customer service. "Our staff is very accommodating," says Jessie Betting, design and marketing manager of Grand View Lodge. "For large family groups, we'll create customized activity schedules tailored to your needs."
For a great meal, you needn't go far. During the winter months, the dining room at Grand View Lodge serves a breakfast buffet on Saturdays and Sundays and dinner on Friday evenings. Sherwood Forest restaurant, located 4 miles from the lodge between Lake Margaret and Gull Lake, serves dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings. For more information visit their Web site at www.grandviewlodge.com.
Further north on the shores of Pelican Lake you'll find Breezy Point Resort, named the best family resort in Minnesota five years in a row by the readers of Minnesota Parent magazine. Breezy Point has 250 rooms, ranging from spacious, hotel-style accommodations to deluxe condominiums complete with fireplace, Jacuzzi and full kitchen.
Indoors at Breezy Center you'll find two pools, a fitness center, sauna, Jacuzzi and game room. Daily activities, such as casino trips, hula-hoop contests and craft classes offer kids and adults the opportunity to try something new. Venture outdoors to discover an abundance of winter activities to choose from. Breezy Point Resort offers dog sled rides, horse-drawn wagon rides, ice slides, broom ball, cross-country ski trails, snow golf, lighted ice skating rinks and bonfire sing-a-longs.
Along the frozen Breezy Bay section of Pelican Lake is the Marina dining room, serving lunch and dinner every day, brunch every Sunday and occasionally opening for breakfast weekdays, depending on capacity. The Marina Lounge offers dancing every Friday and Saturday evening. Down the street from Breezy Point Resort, Antlers restaurant serves lunch and dinner year around.
