Smugglers' Notch
Vermont's Ultimate Family Vacation
By Elisa Ast All
The counselors helped our son with his separation anxiety and then he was off and running. The counselor-to-child ratio is very good – one to five – so he got plenty of attention. His most memorable moments were swimming in Little Smugglers' Lagoon and meeting a life-size version of Mogul Mouse and Billy Bob Bear, the Smugglers' Notch mascots.
Adventure Rangers
For kids ages 6 to 10 years, Adventure Rangers emphasizes discovery with every activity. Children spend a lot of time outdoors learning about nature and science and splashing in various
water playgrounds. The counselor-to-child ratio is one to 10.
The Notch Squad
For children ages 11 to 14, The Notch Squad offers amazing adventures for young teens. They go to the woodland swimming hole, have a beach party, search for treasure and scale a climbing wall, for starters. The counselor-to-child ratio is one to 12.
Mountain Explorers
For kids ages 15 to 17, Mountain Explorers is cool enough to pass any teen's test. They are engaged with physical and mental challenges, such as a high ropes course, hiking, walking the plank, team boat building and more. The counselor-to-child ratio is one to 15.
While your kids are having the time of their lives, there's plenty for you to do, too. Guided nature hikes are very popular, though you can hike by yourself as wel. If you're the sporty type, there's basketball, shuffleboard, volleyball, golf, tennis and croquet. To cool off, enjoy pool games, lap swims, aqua-volleyball or aqua-aerobics. If you're the creative type, take an art workshop. Classes in pottery, painting and drawing are designed to bring out your creativity. You also can try canoeing and paddle-boating or even antiquing, shopping or sightseeing.
