Sensational Skiing
Planning Your Family's Vacation
By Megan Kopp
You've reviewed the pamphlets, checked into lodging options, confirmed ski school requirements and investigated daycare offerings. The next step is to decide how much activity your family would like.
Smugglers' Notch Resort, consistently rated as one of the best family ski resorts in the United States, offers
everything from family game nights, theater, sledding parties and parents' night out to torchlight parades, karaoke and more. Relying heavily on surveys of guests and input from employees to continually improve and adapt their programming, the resort even goes so far as to give refunds for any portion of the holiday that is not enjoyed. "We refund gladly because we'd rather make friends than have someone go home with a glum face," Thomke says.
If you have snowboarders and cross-country skiers in your family, you'll want to make sure that these activities also can be found within the resort area. Read up on exactly what activities other than downhill skiing are available at the specific resort you are considering.
Your final step should be to weigh the costs involved in a family ski vacation. Ask yourself the following: How much are you willing to spend? How long do you want to go for? Does it make sense to get a package holiday? Does the package include lift tickets, after-ski entertainment and accommodations? What costs are not included?
Take the time to learn all you can, ask the right questions and a family-friendly ski vacation could be swooshing your way soon!
