Newly renovated in 2002, the Catamaran's 313 rooms are located directly on Mission Bay and across the street from family-friendly Mission Beach. 
My boys loved the tropical d袯r and the gardens, which featured waterfalls and streams filled with Koi. And my twins were fascinated to watch parrots and swans from our balcony.

Doubletree Hotel San Diego-Mission Valley
Minutes from San Diego's main attractions (SeaWorld, The San Diego Zoo) this stylish hotel features 294 oversized rooms. The yummy Doubletree chocolate-chip cookies were a hit upon check-in with my boys. And our room had plenty of space to spread out in and race Hot Wheels.
My husband and I asked for rooms on the concierge level where we saved money by eating the continental breakfast every morning and snacking on the evening hors d'oeuvres. We also stored milk and juice for the boys in the mini-bar.
Children under 18 stay free in the hotel with parents. And the Doubletree offers a complimentary airport shuttle, which means hassle-free arrivals and departures.
