Family Fun on the Run
By Kendeyl Johansen
Kids don't passively ride rides at Legoland. They drive, climb, slide, splash and more! This interactive 128-acre family theme park, with more than 50 rides, shows and attractions, caters to families with children ages 2 to 12.
My toddlers threw twin tantrums when they had to leave the Duplo Play Town after two solid hours of zipping through whimsical, interactive buildings. And my older son loved the Spellbreaker, which carried us in an air chariot (dual-tracked junior roller coaster) and let us race other park goers.
Another favorite was the new Lego Racers 4-D movie, which dazzled us with a real snowstorm and fireworks. And all three boys loved the Build and Test, where they crafted Lego autos and competed with them. My boys got drenched splashing in the Water Works, but friends had warned me to bring extra clothes so all was well. The park has plenty of fun restaurants, all with kids' meals. Legoland is located at One Legoland Drive, Carlsbad. Contact them at 760-918-5300 or www.lego.com/eng/legoland/california.
Other family hot spots include The San Diego Wild Animal Park and historic Old Town. Also, older kids love bargaining and test-driving school-learned Spanish at the Tijuana Marketplace.
Wonderful hotls are aplenty in San Diego!
