If You're Ever In San Bernardino, California...

Surfer Joe's is the world's most wonderful sandwich restaurant. On the menu are 18 different kinds of sandwiches, all made fresh to order. They make their own bread, which comes hot out of the oven looking like a large pita but thicker and crustier. There are plenty of fixin's inside each sandwich and range from cold tuna, turkey, roast beef, pastrami and sub to hot Italian sausage, and meatball. They also feature three vegetarian sandwiches. The best part is that not one sandwich costs more than $3.99 (as of April 2000). They also serve pizza, spaghetti and salads, soft drinks and beer.

You can dine in or take out. They take most all credit cards (except AMEX). Their location is at 251 E. Redlands Blvd., in San Bernardino, just a half block west of Waterman. This location is actually SOUTH of the 10 freeway, where Redlands Blvd. parallels the 10.

Try to time your visit at 11:00 or 1:00. During the noon hour they do so much business the line goes clear out the door. If you are a sandwich eater, you need to discover this place. You'll go back time and time again, and probably will see my husband and me munching away. We are lucky enough to live close by!
