Salt Lake City, Utah
Olympic Glory and More
By Kendeyl Johansen
It's sad but true that your family can only ski for so long before turning into limp noodles. Give everyone's legs a rest with an exhilarating visit to the tubing playground at Gorgoza Park, where rope tows have replaced the exhausting uphill treks you're trying to forget. The park is lighted for nighttime adventure. Call 435-658-2648. Snowbird also offers tubing, and at $5, the price is right for families on a budget. For more information call 435-933-2147.
Another Park City must-do is the Utah Olympic Park at Bear Hollow. Booking a tour entitles you to special access to the top of the Olympic ski jumps and track. And after the tour adventurous family members can sample "flying" on the 4-Man Bobsled Ride, which hurtles a professional driver and three passengers down the track at an average speed of 75 mph, or brave the Ice-Rocket, a one-man 50 mph sled ride. For more information call 435-658-4200.
Back in Salt Lake, don't miss historic Temple Square. Tours of the temple grounds and buildings are available in 40 languages, and you might even catch a world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir performance. After the tour, stroll across the street to find lost ancestors at the Family History Library. The computers are kid-friendly and your brood will suddenly find history fascinating when it's personal.
Finally, if you're seeking a "doggone" unique adventure let your kids "test drive" eight to 12 tail-wagging canines from the Wild Dog Mushing Company
