A Redwood Road Trip

Discover the Gentle Giants of Northern California

The fishing village of Trinidad is well worth a stop and is located just off of Highway 101, south of the Trees of Mystery. This rugged little seacoast town has simply the best view of the ocean I have ever seen. Hotels are few and far between in this area and tend to be pricey, so make reservations ahead of time for more affordable lodging.

No trip to the Redwoods would be complete without driving through the Avenue of Giants. This lovely side trip is located in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park and winds through some of the best tourist stops on the journey. It includes the famed drive through trees and the Eternal Tree House, with a gift shop inside the tree house. It is about a 35-mile tour and can be accessed from 101.

We ended our road trip with the Avenue of Giants and headed back home, leaving many trails, roadways and stops unexplored. Perhaps we will just have to head back sometime soon. Whether it was the magic of the giant redwoods or the fact that I have wonderful children, we managed the 700-mile road trip with very few arguments! That alone is reason enough to set out again!
