Five-Star Service, Family Style
Luxury and "Kid-Friendly" Meet at the Peninsula Hotel By Belinda Clarke
Traditionally, many parents have divided vacations into two categories: those they take with their kids, which often involve some element of compromise for a "kid-friendly" atmosphere, and those they take alone which include spa treatments, award-winning customer service and first-class cuisine.
On a steamy 4th of July weekend in Chicago you'll find that the majority of the hotels on Michigan Avenue are filled with families enjoying everything the Windy City has to offer summer tourists. And contrary to what you might think, parents looking for five-star service need not compromise luxury for baby- and child-friendly accommodations.
At the Peninsula Hotel in the heart of Chicago's Magnificent Mile, parents are encouraged to bring the entire family to enjoy everything the hotel has to offer both adults and their children. "We pride ourselves on being a family-friendly hotel, as we have much to offer not only for the parents but children as well," says the Peninsula Chicago General Manager Maria Zec. "While Mom might be upstairs at the spa enjoying a massage, her children can entertain themselves with a variety of games such as Sony Playstation and DVDs. Adults and children also can enjoy plenty of activities together such as swimming in the indoor pool or having lunch in one of our four restaurants, all of which provide a kid-friendly menu. We offer an array of services that appeal to people of all ages."
Which isn't to say that older kids miss out in fact, depending on the age of the child, the hotel provides a complimentary welcome snack tray for kids that's overflowing with gummy bears, popcorn, Jell-O and extra-soft chocolate chip cookies, plus milk or soda. This is the perfect "slumber party" snack for kids or teens who are settling in for a night of movie watching or Sony Playstation playing. And so the kids can feel even more pampered, the Peninsula offers children's plush terry robes (just like Mom's and Dad's) to wear to the pool or in their room. And children will get a kick out of the oversized marble bathtubs complete with built-in TV. Where else can they lounge in bubbles while watching cartoons?
