Palm Beach

A Romantic Florida Rendezvous

Just steps from the waves and sand are Worth Avenue's posh boutiques. Don't forget your ATM card because you're certain to spend more cash in these shops than expected. Lars and I just said "no" to the 29-karat diamond we admired, but we said "yes" to a pair of leopard-print pumps at Ferragamo and exquisite dress-up clothes for our boys at Cloud 10.

Lars hardly noticed our rising credit card bill, because he was busy "car watching." The streets were lined with brand new Mercedes and Jaguar convertibles, Lexus sedans and a rainbow of Porsches. And the next block boasted no less than three custom Rolls Royces.

Broke and dazed, but smiling at our brush with non-essential luxury items, we left for CityPlace in downtown West Palm Beach. Locals raved about the complex's chic restaurants, 20-screen movie theatre, 2,500-square-foot performance fountain and specialty shops.

We found CityPlace buzzing with excitement, much of which emanated from the brand-new, $3 million dollar restaurant, Tsunami. Lars, a sushi aficionado, highly recommends feasting at their sushi bar.

After dinner we burned off calories dancing and groovin' to live jazz at CityPlace's upscale Blue Martini. With a menu of 20 specialty martinis, it's hard to choose what to sip. Lars liked the signature Blue Martini, topped with a neon blue arc, and my Cosmopolitan was icy and delicious. Clinking glasses, we toasted my turning 21 (again!).

Back at our hotel, we couldn't pass up a late-night beach stroll under the full moon. The waves danced, the stars sparkled, the balmy night temperature soothed, and we walked hand-in-hand, sighing with contentment. Oh, what a Palm Beach night!
