Mexico's Romantic Moon Palace
A Slice of Earthly Paradise
By Kendeyl Johansen
. And our service was outstanding – we'd worried that the wait staff at an all-inclusive resort might not be motivated without the lure of tips, but throughout our stay the service was flawless. Lars and I did tip occasionally for outstanding service, and the staff always appreciated it.
Lars and I soon found "our" favorite spot: deck loungers facing the beach under rustling coconut palms. The trees and fresh ocean breeze kept us cool, and we could easily take a dip or move our chairs into the sun. And every few minutes wait staff offered us cold drinks. Sipping piña coladas under the palms, with zero responsibilities, we found it hard to move.
But then we'd get hungry, so we'd go feast on the Moon Palace's fine cuisine. Lars raved about the resort's fresh seafood, including sushi, calamari and large peel-and-eat shrimp. And I savored the sizzling chicken and steak fajitas with still-warm tortillas and hot, hot, hot salsa. For dinner we preferred the romantic La Góndola, where we dined by candlelight next to an indoor lake.
After dinner Lars and I liked to walk/swim through the enormous pool. We dubbed it our "river walk" because the pool winds like a river. We'd usually sample one of the resort's moonlit Jacuzzis before returning to our room to dress up for dancing at the Andromeda Disco or attending one of the nightly shows.
Lars and I liked the Moon Palace so much we rarely left. But the resort offers a free shuttle between other nearby Palace properties, and we wanted to visit Cancun to shop. So one night we boarded the shuttle for the Beach Palace located in the hotel zone. The less pricey Beach Palace was fun with its crashing waves andcrystal waters but the beach was small and crowded, and locals constantly tried selling us wares ranging from silver bracelets to TVs. The Moon Palace's security prevented this.
