A Mayan Wedding

Spiritually Tying the Knot

A Deeper Meaning

"Today more than ever, people are seeking to add deeper meaning to their lives," says Lucrecia Bloomquist, Maya Spa manager and wedding coordinator. "The idea of uniting with nature and each other is a very intense and spiritual experience that many couples hold sacred. Cosmic weddings are profoundly emotional ceremonies that evoke age-old universal energies and metaphors people can still relate to today."

Unity of all elements is the central theme of cosmic weddings, reflected in everything from the carefully chosen ceremony location to the color of the wedding flowers: yellow for south, red for east, white for north and violet for west. Under the guidance of the spiritual leader, couples are wed inside a circle of friends and family. They discuss the energetic value of their spiritual union and, during the ceremony, strength of love is asked for from the presiding universal powers.

Cabaņas Copal features 47 rustic cabaņas hidden among the jungle on the pristine white powder shores of Tulum in Mexico's Mayan Riviera. The eco-hotel has candlelit cabaņas, encourages total wellness and celebrates spirituality with a clothing-optional dress code.

Azulik, a 15-villa retreat next to Copal, carries the concept of rustic luxury to the max with lounge beds and hand-carved wooden soaking tubs. At night under a canopy of celestial stars, hundreds of candles light sandy laneways at both properties.
