Funny Business in Chicago
Mixing Business Travel with Leisure Time in Chicago
By Suzy Feine
Guest rooms include voice mail, automated wake-up calls and data ports. Meeting facilities feature audio/visual services, customized banquet menus and catering and special group rates for large parties.
The Essex Inn offers complimentary shuttle services to and from the Magnificent Mile, an on-site restaurant and a rooftop fitness center including an indoor swimming pool.
If you're short on leisure time, here are a few of Chicago's "must see" family attractions.
Navy Pier
Located on Grand Avenue just east of downtown Chicago, Navy Pier juts out 1.5 miles into Lake Michigan. Considered Chicago's lakefront playground, Navy Pier offers family travelers a day filled with rides, unique restaurants, cultural experiences and ever-changing entertainment.
The Chicago Children's Museum, Chicago Shakespeare theater, IMAX theater and Amazing Chicago are just some of the attractions you'll experience here. Add in rides, including a 150-foot tall Ferris wheel, carousel and wave swinger, and your children will think you've brought them to paradise.
Sears Tower Skydeck
Imagine traveling straight up 1,353 feet on one of the world's fastest elevators. Arriving at the 103rd floor, you gaze through floor-to-ceiling windows at four different states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. Welcome to the Sears Tower Skydeck, one of the world's tallest buildings.
Encircling the interior of the Skydeck is Knee-high Chicago – a kids-eye view of the city, its people, places and history. This interactive mural paints a historic picture of Chicago, teaching children city facts in a fun and entertaining way.
John G. Shedd Aquarium
Since 1929, the John G. Shedd Aquarium has been home to hundreds of reptiles, amphibians, fish, mammals and invertebrates. Today, more than 6,000 species are on display within the aquarium, oceanarium and numerous exhibits, including Amazon Rising, Seahorse Symphony, Caribbean Reef and more.
