If You're Ever In Brenham, Texas...
By Donna Smith
If you're ever in Brenham, Texas, stop by the Blue Bell Creamery, the home of the "best ice cream in the country." Kids and adults will get a kick out of touring the creamery and finding out how ice cream is made and packaged. A museum full of rare pictures of Blue Bell's and Brenham's early days will take you back in time. Blue Bell brags that they "eat all they can and sell the rest," but don't worry, a special treat awaits you at the end of the tour -- Blue Bell ice cream, of course! Tours are only available weekdays, and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you have 15 or more in your party, you care encouraged to call ahead for reservations at 1-800-327-8135.
At the country store you'll find handcrafted Texas toys, art, quilts and food items. The kids will love picking out a souvenir, such as a pencil, key chain, T-shirt or hat. The Country Store is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. (They are closed on Saturdays in January and February.)
With good taste and country charm, this is one sweet spot in Texas not to be missed!
